Drought conditions are now expected to persist in portions of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia
WASHINGTON, DC - The new 90-day Drought Outlook released on January 31 indicates farmers in the coastal regions of the deep south may see the development of drought conditions during the time frame of February through April. The forecast was published by the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center.
The coastal regions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina may possibly see dry soil conditions and reduced availability of forages during the spring months. The agency published a report earlier in January that stated "La Niña conditions are present and are expected to persist through February-April 2025."
Drought conditions are expected to persist through April in eastern North Carolina, eastern South Carolina, and portions of Southern Virginia.
Drought removal is likely in parts of the Mid-Atlantic Region, Delmarva, eastern Tennessee, Michigan, north Alabama, western North Carolina, and parts of New England.
